Nearby Kaitaia is the northern-most town of New Zealand and is central to all of the good tourist spots of the Far North and there are buses and 4x4 vehicles leaving daily for Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach.

We are just a short drive from Rangaunu Harbour, Ninety Mile Beach and Doubtless Bay where there is awesome fishing from land or boat.

Aupouri Peninsula, Ninety Mile Beach and Cape Reinga

The beautiful Aupouri Peninsula is a sub-tropical paradise in the Far North of New Zealand - stretching north from Ahipara and Kaitaia.

Steeped in pioneering history and maori legend, home of the giant swamp kauri and treasured kauri gum. Experience our unspoiled beaches to swim, snorkel and gather shellfish, take time out to enjoy some of the best fishing waters in the world.

The magnificent white sand beaches of the east coast and Ninety Mile Beach on the west coast are easily accessible at Rarawa, Waipapakauri and Ahipara.

It's an easy day trip to Cape Reinga - drive down Ninety Mile Beach, visit Gumdiggers Park and Ancient Kauri Kingdom.

A number of bus companies offer day tours to Ninely Mile Beach and Cape Reinga from Kaitaia and Awanui. Harrisons Cape Runner and Sand Safaris are two locally-owned companies.

Kaitaia and Ahipara

You can visit the Okahu Estate Vineyard and Winery and go sport fishing, quad bike riding over the sand dunes, surfing and golfing on a fine links course.

Doubtless Bay

East of Little Lakes Retreat at Doubtless Bay, you can visit Butler Point Whaling Museum and homestead, walk the Mangonui Heritage Trail, go sailing, play golf and visit the Karikari Estate Winery at Carrington Resort, kite surf and dive or just relax on the magnificent beaches of the Karikari Peninsula. Famous Matai Bay is a must.

Eating out

There is excellent dining at the Beachcomber Restaurant, Kai Thai, Indian Spice and Bushmans Hut Steakhouse in Kaitaia. At Waterfront Cafe, Little Kitchen on the Bay, Indian Spice and the Fish Shop in Mangonui and at Carrington Resort and Karikari Estate Winery on the Karikari Peninsula. There are also many cafes and take-aways in the area including Bakerman and Ancient Kauri Kingdom in Awanui and also in Mangonui.
